Bearing Services Africa (Pty) Ltd, based in Jet Park, South Africa, was established by Barry Everitt as a Black Economic Empowerment (BEE) initiative and came into operation on 1 April 2007 by acquiring the assets of seven divisions of National Bearing Distributors CC.
Barry Everitt was previously employed within the SKF Group from 1971 until 1998 during which time he held various positions such as branch manager, regional manager and divisional director. In 1998 he decided to pursue his own business interest and acquired National Bearing Distributors, a supplier of SKF and non-SKF bearing brands to trade stockists.
Between 1999 and 2006 National Bearing Distributors expanded its operation by acquiring SKF branches in Alrode, East Rand, Bethal, Middelburg, Witbank, Springs, and Khayalami Bearings in Kriel. Although National Bearing Distributors subsequently sold these divisions to Bearing Services Africa in 2007, the company continues today as a supplier of SKF and non-SKF bearing brands to trade stockists. During 2010 Bearing Services Africa further strengthened their position in the market by acquiring another two SKF branches, Pretoria and Nelspruit and in 2011 Bearing Services Africa acquired four SKF operations in Kwazulu Natal, namely Jacobs, Pietermaritzburg, Richards Bay and Mandini.
Grant started his career at SKF in 1990 and left SKF in August 1999. Grant joined Barry Everitt at Bearing Services. He became the Sales Director in 2006. In November 2013 Grant Van Rooyen took over the leadership and
was appointed Managing Director of the Bearing Services Group of Companies.
